What is AnimeCollector?

AnimeCollector is an application for Linux users who wish to organise and sort their anime collection, while updating information on their collection to common sites, and announcing via other software.

So where is it at?

AnimeCollector is currently still at the alpha stage of development - incomplete with few of it's functions implemented. The application is open source (licenced under the GPL v3), and written in Python with the GTK, along with a few other dependancies (check the download page for more). I say the application is for Linux users - in theory, nothing is platform specific (this may change when it comes to watching media players) - but porting it should not be hard in any case. If demand is apparent, it may be ported to other platforms (I don't have a Mac, so an OSX port would have to be someone else, although I'd be happy to help where I could.)

What can it do?

Currently? Not that much. It has the GUI up and running, it can remember login details, connect to MAL, store your list locally, perform small edits and commit to MAL, and it has a system tray icon.

This version has better MAL support, the local database has been scrapped in favour of pickling (makes more sense if you know python), and some GUI updates, including a configuration wizard. It also has a pretty major bugfix that causes the current release to crash if you have partial dates. A new version should be released before 2009, with AniDB support.

Beyond that, the aim is to get full management from the client, full editing, synchronising of lists, auto-updating based on media players, file organisation, torrent watching, xChat/Pidgin/g15tools integration, and file batch import, Along with many other small concepts I plan on including.
